Dragons Fall 7-1 at Bowling Green in MWL Opener

Bowling Green, Ky. - The Bowling Green Hot Rods came back from an early deficit to score seven unanswered runs as they defeated the Dayton Dragons 7-1 on Thursday night in the Midwest League season-opener for both clubs.

Bowling Green's Kevin Padlo belted a two-run home run in the bottom of the third inning that gave the Hot Rods the lead. Peter Maris later added a solo homer for Bowling Green.

Narciso Crook led the Dragons offensively with a single and double. Dayton finished with five hits. Jose Siri added a double while Shed Long and Argenis Aldazoro each had a single.

Dayton starting pitcher Tanner Rainey was charged with the loss. He worked three innings, allowing two runs on four hits with one walk and four strikeouts.

The Dragons took a 1-0 lead in the top of the third when Aldazoro led off the inning with a single to right, went to third on Siri's double to center, and scored on Shane Mardirosian's infield ground out.

The Hot Rods took a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the frame on Padlo's homer. They extended their lead to 5-1 in the fourth with three runs against Dragons reliever Ty Boyles. They added single runs in the sixth and seventh innings against Dayton right-hander Sarkis Ohanian. The Hot Rods finished the night with 10 hits.

The Dragons (0-1) battle the Hot Rods again on Friday night at 7:35 EDT. Left-hander Jacob Constante (4-3, 3.56 at Billings in 2015) will make his Midwest League debut for the Dragons against Bowling Green's Cameron Varga (3-6, 2.97 with Hudson Valley in 2015).

The Dragons will host Bowling Green in their annual Opening Day event at Fifth Third Field on Saturday, April 9. The game will begin at 4:00 p.m. The series will continue at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday.

Saturday's game will be televised on Dayton's CW (available over the air on channel 26.1; Time Warner Cable channels 13 and 1013; DirecTV and Dish Network channel 26).
