New Hampshire Fisher Cats News Release

Manchester, NH- Todd Donovan went 2-for-4 with two singles, two stolen bases, an RBI and a run scored, but the Portland Sea Dogs rallied past the New Hampshire Fisher Cats for a 9-3 victory on Sunday night at Merchantsauto.com Stadium.

Donovan led off the bottom of the first inning with a single off winning pitcher Blake Maxwell. Maxwell then hit Brian Dopirak with a pitch, and David Cooper (2-for-4, BB, R, RBI) singled to right, plating Donovan to give the Fisher Cats (37-45) a 1-0 lead.

The Sea Dogs (39-42) tied the game 1-1 when Ryan Kalish (3-for-5, HR, 2B, 2 R, 2 RBI) drilled his second home run of the season, a lead-off solo shot off Marty McLeary.

Portland went in front to stay in the top of the fourth when Josh Reddick (2-for-6, 3B, 2 RBI, R) hit a two-out RBI single off McLeary, scoring Reid Engel (1-for-5, R) for a 2-1 lead.

The Sea Dogs put the game away against the Fisher Cats' bullpen. In the top of the seventh, Portland scored three times off Edgar Estanga. Lars Anderson (1-for-4, 2B, BB, RBI, R) laced an RBI double to right, and Argenis Diaz (2-for-4, 2 RBI, HBP) added a two-run single to center for a 5-1 lead.

New Hampshire got one back in the bottom of the seventh when Darin Mastroianni (2-for-4, 2B, RBI, R) led off the stanza with a double off reliever Andrew Dobies. One out later, Donovan slapped a single to center, bringing home Mastroianni to trim Portland's lead to 5-2.

But the Sea Dogs tacked on four more runs in the eighth against Estanga and Celson Polanco. Ryan Khoury (1-for-4, BB, R) singled and scored when Reddick tripled off the top of the right field fence. Estanga gave way to Polanco, who surrendered a run-scoring single to Kalish and a two-run homer to Jorge Jimenez (3-for-5, HR, 2 RBI, 2 R), his ninth, which gave the Sea Dogs a 9-2 lead.

Mastroianni added a run-scoring single off Dustin Richardson in the bottom of the eighth to cap the scoring.

Maxwell (1-5) earned his first win of the year, shaking off three hit batters to work five innings, allowing one run on four hits. The right-hander fanned two.

McLeary (1-1) absorbed his first loss of the year after giving up two runs on seven hits in five innings of work. The righty yielded seven hits, struck out two and walked three in the setback.

The Fisher Cats saw their season-high five-game winning streak halted, and Dopirak (0-for-4, HBP) had his franchise-record 18-game hitting streak snapped.

New Hampshire and Portland play the rubber game of their three-game series on Monday afternoon at 12:05pm when Fisher Cats right-hander Adrian Martin (0-1, 3.77) duels with Sea Dogs right-hander Ryne Lawson (1-7, 6.20) on Camp Day at Merchantsauto.com Stadium.
