Chicago Dogs News Release
ROSEMONT, Ill. - David Olmedo-Barrera extended his on-base streak to 34 games, but the Chicago Dogs could not overcome a sixth inning outburst by Fargo-Moorhead as they fell to the RedHawks 6-2 on Saturday night.
On Gold Glove Charities Night the Dogs wore special black jerseys, with each player honoring a child fighting cancer by wearing the child's name on the back of their jerseys.
In front of a full crowd of 6,107 at Impact Field, the Dogs and RedHawks each earned their respective offensive outputs in a single inning.
Chicago jumped out to a two-run lead in the bottom of the first. Olmedo-Barrera singled to lead off the inning and advanced to second on an Edwin Arroyo sacrifice. As Keon Barnum drew a walk, a wild pitch from RedHawks starter sent Olmedo-Barrera home to give the Dogs the 1-0 lead.
Two batters later Jordan Dean grounded into a fielder's choice that scored Barnum, giving the Dogs a two-run advantage.
Jake Dahlberg (L, 6-6) was cruising with five shutout frames before running into trouble in the sixth. With two outs, Devin Ahart connected for a two-run home run to tie the game. After Chris Jacobs doubled and Correlle Prime was intentionally walked, T.J. Bennett hit two-run single to give Fargo-Moorhead the 4-2 lead.
Jalen Miller entered the game to limit the damage, but surrendered run-scoring hits to Leobaldo Piña and Yhoxian Medina as the RedHawks extended their lead to 6-2.
Justin Goossen-Brown and Harrison Smith combined for three scoreless innings to keep the RedHawks at bay, but the Dogs couldn't muster a late-inning rally for the second straight night.
RHP Carlos Zambrano start the series finale on Sunday afternoon. First pitch is set for 3:05 PM.
