Chicago Dogs News Release

ROSEMONT, Ill. - The Chicago Dogs announced on Saturday that RHP Carlos Zambrano will be the team's starting pitcher for Sunday's game against Fargo-Moorhead.

Zambrano enjoyed a fruitful major league career, which featured an 11-year tenure with the Chicago Cubs and one year with the Miami Marlins. Three times during Zambrano's career, he placed fifth in NL Cy Young voting and also earned three Silver Slugger Awards. In September 2008, "Big Z" pitched the only neutral site no-hitter in MLB history.

After 30 relief appearances for the Dogs in 2019, he is slated to start for the first time tomorrow afternoon.

"He's always been a starter, and he really wants to start," Dogs manager Butch Hobson said. "He wants to help this team in any way he can, and a spot for a starter opened up. We feel like Carlos is the guy who deserves that start. With his experience and his leadership, I think it's going to be a good thing for us."

Zambrano has posted a 5.17 ERA in his 30 outings this season, striking out 32 batters and allowing ten walks. Over his last two appearances, Zambrano retired all six batters faced, including three via the strikeout.

The last time Zambrano started a game in Chicago was August 6, 2011, an 11-4 Cubs win over the Cincinnati Reds.

The Chicago Dogs host the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks on Sunday afternoon at Impact Field. First pitch is set for 3:05 PM.
