Chicago Dogs News Release

ROSEMONT, Ill. - The Chicago Dogs have signed Daniel Hurtado to a contract.

Hurtado, a 27-year-old right-handed pitcher, joins the Dogs from the Cleburne Railroaders, where he spent the majority of the 2019 season. In 17 appearances out of the bullpen for Cleburne, he posted a 3.48 ERA, while striking out 20 batters in 20.2 IP, limiting opposing hitters to just a .176 average.

Born in Los Teques, Venezuela, Hurtado started his professional career as a 16-year-old in the Los Angeles Angels organization in 2009. He made 12 starts for their A-ball affiliate, the Burlington Bees, posting a 2.95 ERA and a 64/20 strikeout-to-walk ratio. He has spent the following four winters in the Venezuelan Winter League, pitching for Tigres de Aragua until joining the American Association early in 2019.

"We saw him earlier in the year," Dogs manager Butch Hobson said. "He's at 91-92 MPH on his fastball with a really good changeup. We're glad to have Daniel over here and help us win this thing."

As a corresponding move, the Dogs have released RHP Trevor Simms. LHP Luke Westphal has also been added to the seven-game disabled list.

The Dogs face the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks tonight at 7:05 PM in Game Two of a three-game set, after Chicago rallied for a 5-1 win Friday night.
