
Dogs Sign Former Padres Farmhand Carkuff

Winnipeg, MB. - The Chicago Dogs announced today the signing of right-handed pitcher Jared Carkuff to the 23-man active roster. The club has released catcher Wilfredo Rodriguez to make rome on the roster for Carkuff.
A Bell Buckle, TN native, Carkuff is in his third season of professional baseball. After being drafted in the 35th round (1062nd overall) by the Toronto Blue Jays in the 2016 Major League Baseball Amateur Draft, Carkuff pitched in the Toronto organization for two seasons-reaching as high as AAA with the Buffalo Bisons.
Following the 2017 season, Carkuff was traded from the Blue Jays to the San Diego Padres along with outfielder Edward Olivares in exchange for Yangervis Solarte.
Carkuff began 2018 with the Padres AA affiliate, the San Antonio Missions, where he allowed one run in three innings over two appearances before being promoted to the Padres AAA affiliate, the El Paso Chihuahuas.
Carkuff made one appearance for the Chihuahuas, allowing three runs in one inning, before being reassigned to the Padres A affiliate, the Fort Wayne Tin Caps. In 13 appearances for Fort Wayne, Carkuff pitched to a 3-1 record and a 5.40 ERA.
Overall in his professional career, Carkuff has logged 113.2 innings, pitching to a 10-5 record and a 3.80 ERA.
Carkuff played his college baseball at Austin Peay University in Clarksville, TN where he went 14-9 with a 4.58 ERA during his four-year career.
The Dogs open a seven-game road trip tonight in Winnipeg against the Goldeyes. First pitch is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. The game will be broadcast at www.thechicagodogs.com/broadcasts/ with the Crowne Plaza Pregame Show beginning at 6:40 p.m.
