Fargo, N.D. - A season-high-tying eight walks from the Gary offense and four innings of one-run ball from the bullpen led the RailCats to a 3-2 win over the Fargo-Moorhead in the series opener on Thursday night at Newman Outdoor Field. Thursday's win improves Gary's record to a season-best five games above .500 and just one game behind St. Paul for first in the American Association North Division.
Gary (12-7) took the opening lead of the series with a two-out run in the first. Alex Crosby led off the game with an infield single up the first base line, extending his season-high on-base streak to 16 games. Crosby then swiped second for his team-high sixth stolen base before scoring on Colin Willis' RBI double down into the right field corner.
Fargo-Moorhead (9-10) countered with a two-out run of their own in the third, tying the game at 1-1. Maikol Gonzalez doubled down the left field line with two down before Devan Ahart drew a walk. Charlie Valerio followed Ahart with a soft RBI single into right field, plating Gonzalez from second.
The RedHawks took their first lead of the series with a run in the sixth. Randolph Oduber singled off the glove of Crosby at first to open the inning. Oduber then stole second before advancing to third on Leo Pina's single to left. Fargo-Moorhead then executed the double steal to go up 2-1 after Pina swiped second before Oduber took off for home on the throw down to second.
The RailCats regained the lead for good with the final two runs of the game in then seventh. Christoph Bono and Will Savage drew back-to-back walks before Crosby tied the game at 2-2 with an RBI single to right-center. Reggie Wilson put Gary up for good with a sacrifice fly to center, bringing home Savage from third.

Jack Fowler (2) recorded a hold after retiring the only hitter he faced while Myles Smith (2) also recorded a hold with a perfect bottom of the eighth. Gabe Perez (5) secured the win with his team-high fifth save after retiring three of the four batters he faced in the bottom of the ninth.
