Lincoln Saltdogs News Release
LINCOLN - The Saltdogs were wheeling and dealing during the "off day," acquiring American Association doubles leader Brian Joynt and RHP Luis Chirinos from the El Paso Diablos in exchange for cash.
Joynt, who can play both corner outfield positions, is hitting .339 (which ranks eighth in the league) with four home runs, 38 RBI, eight stolen bases and a co-league leading 28 doubles.
The 28-year old originally hails from Camarillo, Calif. and was drafted by the San Diego Padres in 2007 out of Oklahoma City University, reaching as high as Double-A San Antonio. Joynt is expected to be inserted fifth in the Saltdogs batting order Tuesday evening in Winnipeg.
Chirinos is 3-3 with a 5.19 in 17 games, including 10 starts. The 23-year old from Maracay, Venezuela has 41 strikeouts against 23 walks in 59 innings. Chirinos, who spent four years in the Miami Marlins organization before joining the independent ranks in 2011, will start for the Saltdogs Friday at Sioux City.
Monday the Saltdogs also released LHP Matt Bywater, who may need surgery on an injured shoulder, and traded OF Stephen Douglas to Laredo in exchange for a player to be named later.
Lincoln plays a double header Tuesday night at Winnipeg starting at 6:05 p.m. Radio coverage begins at 6 p.m. on KFOR 1240.
