Dodgers Off-Key Against Sounds

Nashville, Tenn. - The Nashville Sounds scored twice in the first inning and held the lead the rest of the way in a 6-4 victory over the Oklahoma City Dodgers Tuesday night at First Tennessee Park.

After winning the first two games of the series, the Dodgers have now dropped the last two. Prior to Tuesday, the Dodgers had not consecutive road games in over a month, and prior to Monday, the team was 12-2 in its previous 14 road games.

The Sounds (37-47) jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead in the first inning. With the bases loaded and one out, Isiah Kiner-Falefa hit a ground ball toward third base. Angelo Mora made a nice backhanded stop on the ball, but his throw to second base to start a potential double play went into right field, as two runs scored.

The Dodgers (34-39) responded with a run in the second inning with back-to-back doubles by Jon Kemmer and Jake Peter, but the Sounds got the run back in the bottom of the inning with a RBI double by Christian Lopes.

Nashville took its largest lead of the night in the third inning when Matt Davidson connected on a two-run homer to make it 5-1.

Connor Joe cut the deficit back to two runs when he connected on a two-run homer in the fifth inning, picking up his eighth homer of the year.

Davidson struck back in the seventh, lining a RBI double to push Nashville's lead to 6-3. Up to that point, the Sounds were 0-for-9 with runners in scoring position.

The Dodgers started off the eighth inning with a walk by Joe and Zach Reks' second double of the night. DJ Peters followed with a sacrifice fly to deep center field, scoring Joe and advancing Reks to third. But Reks was left stranded at third base and the Dodgers remained down by two.

Sounds closer David Carpenter retired the side in order in the ninth inning to finish the game and earn his 14th save of the season.

Nashville starting pitcher Seth Maness (5-2) earned the win after allowing three runs and five hits over five innings, with one walk and six strikeouts.

OKC starting pitcher Dennis Santana's recent rut continued, and he was handed the loss. Over five innings, Santana (2-6) allowed five runs (four earned) and seven hits, with three walks and three strikeouts.

The Sounds outhit the Dodgers, 9-7, although five of OKC's hits went for extra bases. Reks was the only Dodger with a multi-hit game, and the team went 1-for-7 with runners in scoring position.
