Chattanooga Lookouts News Release
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. -The Chattanooga Lookouts and Los Angeles Dodgers have announced that the two franchises have extended their Player Development Contract through the 2014 season.
The 2010 season marks the second year of affiliation between the Dodgers and Lookouts. The two franchises originally signed a two-season pact in September of 2008, which made the Lookouts the "AA" affiliate of the Los Angeles Dodgers in the Southern League from 2009-10.
"We are pleased to continue our relationship with the Dodgers and proud of the trust the Dodgers have placed on us," said Lookouts President and General Manager Frank Burke.
The Dodgers franchise has a long and storied history of success in player development. Since the inception of the "Jackie Robinson Award (Rookie of the Year)," the Dodgers have produced 16 such honorees. Not only have the Dodgers produced more Rookie of the Year winners than any other franchise, but they have done so resoundingly, as no other team has accrued over eight winners.
"We are excited to continue our relationship with the Lookouts and extending the Dodgers brand of baseball to Chattanooga and the Southeast," said Dodgers Assistant General Manager/Director of Player Development De Jon Watson.
Both the Dodgers and Lookouts boast deep, revered histories with both teams dating back to pre-1900. The Dodgers have won a total of six World Series and have fostered 57 Hall of Famers. Since 1885, many greats have donned the Lookouts uniform, from Hall of Famers Burleigh Grimes, Harmon Killebrew, and Ferguson Jenkins to current Major League All-Stars Adam Dunn, Joey Votto, and Trevor Hoffman.
Since the affiliation agreement between the two clubs, six Lookouts have proceeded to make their respective Major League debuts.
