MONTGOMERY, Ala. - The first place Tennessee Smokies won the rubber match of the Montgomery series by winning 6-1 over the Biscuits on Friday night at Riverwalk Stadium.

The win gave Tennessee the series over Montgomery, and the Smokies maintain their lead of the North Division second half standings. With the win, the Smokies also have the best overall record they have had in 2010 at 67-43, a full 24 games over the five-hundred mark.

Starter Rafael Dolis took the victory for the Smokies for his second win of the season. Dolis pitched five innings while giving up only one run on six hits. Dolis also walked two batters while striking out two men as he improved to 2-2 in 2010.

The Smokies had an interesting trip to the plate in the top of the second inning. With runners at first and second, Brandon Guyer hit what appeared to be a three-run homer over the left field wall. However after Guyer rounded the bases, Montgomery manager Billy Gardner Jr. argued the home run, and the umpires ruled that the ball went through the grating of the top of the fence, giving Guyer a ground-rule double that scored a run.

Tennessee would eventually add the two runs that were supposed to come on the home run. On two consecutive plays, the Biscuits infield made errors that allowed Matt Spencer and Guyer to score to give Tennessee a 3-0 lead.

The Smokies added a run in the top of the third as Russ Canzler scored on groundout to put Tennessee ahead 4-0. The Biscuits would score a run in the bottom of the fourth on a John Matulia ground out that scored Henry Wrigley to cut Tennessee's lead to 4-1.

The game was suspended in the top of the sixth inning, when a heavy rain began to fall at Riverwalk Stadium. After a 37-minute delay, play was resumed and Tennessee immediately added runs, as Tony Campana hit a two-RBI single to put Tennessee on top 6-1.

Ryan Buchter and Aaron Shafer combined to pitch the final four innings in scoreless fashion to preserve Tennessee's 6-1 victory, as the Smokies take a 7-6 lead in the season series between the Smokies and Biscuits.

The Smokies will return home to begin a five-game series against the Huntsville Stars on Saturday. The series opener will feature Chris Carpenter (7-5, 3.21 ERA) on the mound against Huntsville's Michael Bowman (8-8, 5.28 ERA).The game begins at 6:15 p.m., and fans can listen to the contest on the Smokies Radio Network.
