PEARL, Miss. - Eight free passes from starter Pat McAnaney led to an early exit and a 6-0 victory for the Mississippi Braves over the BayBears in the rubber game of their five-game series on Friday night at Trustmark Park.

McAnaney (5-10) walked Yasser Gomez to start the bottom of the first, and then put Willie Cabrera on with one out in front of Mauro Gomez. With two strikes, Gomez cracked a ball to the gap in left-center, bringing Yasser Gomez and Cabrera home with the night's first two tallies.

Mississippi (49-60, 19-22) starter Jacob Thompson (7-7) didn't allow an earned run for his third consecutive start although he almost was tagged in the second when Bryan Byrne poked a single to left and attempted to score on a double by Taylor Harbin. Two strong relay throws, however, from Cody Johnson and Tyler Pastornicky thwarted Byrne at the plate.

A bases-loaded opportunity got away from the BayBears (59-49, 23-17) in the fourth inning as Byrne reached on an error by Pastornicky to load the bags with one out for Harbin, but he popped out to second. Cyle Hankerd flipped a ball to shallow right, but he was robbed of a hit by a diving Cabrera.

Mississippi blew the doors off in the bottom of the fourth as Mauro Gomez singled and came home on a base hit by Donell Linares to make it 3-0. Orlando Mercado and Johnson each walked to load the bases with no outs. McAnaney almost worked out of the jam as he punched out Luis Bolivar and forced Thompson to fly to center, but then walks to Yasser Gomez and Pastornicky put the Braves up by five.

Mississippi added a run in the bottom of the fifth off Reid Mahon with singles by Mauro Gomez, Mercado and Bolivar as Bolivar picked up the ribbie to hand the M-Braves a 6-0 stranglehold.

More scoring chances strayed away from the BayBears throughout the evening as Jake Elmore's lead-off double in the fifth went to waste while two men were left in scoring position in the eighth inning. The contest ended on a terrific running catch in the right-field corner by Cabrera that also saved a run off the bat of Evan Frey.

The BayBears return to Hank Aaron Stadium on Saturday night to take on the Jacksonville Suns with a chance to reclaim first place in the South Division at 7:05. The BayBears have also announced that Whiplash the Cowboy Monkey will be coming to Hank Aaron Stadium on Wednesday, August 11 and Thursday, August 12 for a special, two-day appearance in Mobile.
