Mississippi Braves News Release

Pearl, MS- For the third time in the last five nights, the Mississippi Braves shutout the Mobile Bay Bears. With a 6-0 win, it added up to be the 8th shutout victory for Mississippi this season and the 13 shutout loss for Mobile. The Bay Bears hit just (6-48) with runners in scoring position in the series and Mississippi dominated from the mound. Continuing on the dominance was right-hander Jacob Thompson. With seven shutout innings and a win tonight, Thompson is now (3-0) with two no-decisions and an ERA of (0.89) in his last five starts. Jacob struck out just one batter but pitched extremely well and was rarely in trouble.

The Braves got the scoring started in the 1st inning when Mauro Gomez collected his league leading, 34th double of the season. It scored two runs and gave Mississippi a 2-0 lead. Bay Bears' starter, Pat McAnaney, walked a season high eight batters and Mississippi cashed in on the wildness in the 4th inning. Mauro Gomez led off the inning with his second of three hits on the night and eventually scored. Donell Linares and Orlando Mercado both scored as well and Mississippi advanced ahead 5-0 after the 4th inning. The final M-Brave run came an inning later. Mauro Gomez scored again, this time on a two-out, RBI single from Luis Bolivar. The Braves took a 6-0 lead and would win be that score.

The Braves now hit the road to face the woeful Birmingham Barons. The Barons are (38-73) for the season and have won just three times in their last seven games. Mississippi will send out RHP Julio Teheran (1-1; 4.35) against Birmingham's LHP Justin Edwards (3-7; 5.54). First pitch will be at 6:30 from Regions Park in Hoover, Alabama.
