Wisconsin Rapids - Matt Ditman held the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters off the board for the entire game, recording the fifth complete game shutout in the Northwoods League this season, as the Wisconsin Woodchucks defeated the Rafters 12-0.

Ditman went the distance, allowing no runs on eight hits with no walks and six strikeouts. The Rice sophomore threw only 97 pitches, 68 of which were strikes. It was the first complete game shutout since Adam Kramer's shutout of the Madison Mallards in July of 2012 in a rain-shortened game that lasted five innings.

For the fourth time in his last four times in the line-up, Tyler Stieb would set the tone for the game with a run in the top of the first. After a leadoff double, Stieb would score on an RBI single by Jake Jefferies to give the Woodchucks a 1-0 lead.

Stieb would come through with the bat again in the top of the second. After an RBI single by Brandon Krieg made it 2-0 Woodchucks, Stieb placed a two-run double in the left-center field gap to score both Krieg and Austin Diemer and give the Woodchucks a 4-0 lead.

With the lead still at 4-0, Matt Tellor came to the dish in the top of the third. Tellor lined a ball over the right-field wall for his seventh home run of the season to extend the lead to 5-0.

After being held off the board in the fourth and fifth, the Woodchucks would tack on four more runs in the top of the sixth. Krieg would record his second RBI of the game on a double that scored Levi Meyer from second base. Edgar Figueroa, Stieb, and Garrett Rucker would all add RBI's in the frame as the "˜Chucks extended their lead to 9-0. Stieb would finish 2-4 with two doubles and three RBI's. With the score still 9-0 Woodchucks in the eighth, Jefferies blasted his third home run since Friday over the left-field wall to make it a 12-0 Woodchucks lead.

The Woodchucks and Rafters will meet again tomorrow at Witter Field for Game 2 of the three-game series. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05.
