St. Cloud Rox Fall to Duluth Wednesday, 6-4

St. Cloud, Minn. - *The St. Cloud Rox and the Duluth Huskies kicked off their two game series here in St. Cloud together Wednesday night. St. Cloud fell to the Huskies after leading in the game by a final score of 6-4.

The Rox started off on the right foot as they took a 2-0 lead over Duluth in the bottom of the first inning. Adam Martin was the one getting the bats going with a single. Luke Weber followed Martin hitting a two-run bomb for the Rox lead.

St. Cloud held the Huskies to three up and three down in the second to hold onto their 2-0 lead. Vincent Jackson would lead off in the bottom half of the inning earning a walk on six pitches. Back-to-back singles by Dustin Breshears and Eric Loxtercamp would score Jackson to take the Rox to a 3-0 lead. A sacrifice fly to center field by Tim Colwell made it a 4-0 game, scoring Breshears on the throw.

Scoring went stagnant for five innings as the defenses picked up by both sides. The Duluth Huskies would go six complete innings without getting a hit as Kyle Fischer went 20 for 20 on the mound before their first hit in the seventh inning.

The top of the eighth the Huskies posted three runs on two hits and two Rox' errors bringing the game within one trailing 4-3. Reese Gregory came in to face one batter in the eighth gaining the third out to end the inning.

Duluth held the Rox to only one hit in the bottom of the eighth to then take their first lead of the game off a three-run home run by Nick Saathoff. The Huskies ended the inning with a 6-4 lead scoring three runs on four hits.

Blake Headley posted a two-out double to keep the bottom of the ninth alive but the inning fell short as they fell by a final score of 6-4.

Kyle Fischer started on the mound for the Rox, pitching 7.2 innings of work and went six complete innings allowing not hits. Closing out the game was Reese Gregory, as he pitched 1.1 innings and recorded the loss.

The St. Cloud Times Rox' Player of the Game is Kyle Fischer. Fischer pitched 7.2 innings on the mound and went 20 for 20 before allowing his first hit of the game.

The St. Cloud Rox (22-27, 8-6 Second Half) and the Duluth Huskies (29-20, 9-5 Second Half) will be back in action for their final game in the series Thursday night for a 7:05 p.m. game time.

Thursday, July 18 the Rox will be hosting their 2nd Annual ROXtoberfest presented by Bernick's. There will be craft beer sampling for those fans that are 21 and older as well.

The Rox will cap off a home stretch with a two game series against the Alexandria Blue Anchors on Friday and Saturday.

Post-game Fireworks will take place on Friday, July 19 presented by HealthPartners Central Minnesota Clinics.

The Rox final game of the week will be on Saturday, July 20 as they introduce Ram's Grand Slams and Body Slams presented by Ram Trucks and Brandl Motors. The American Wresting Federation (AWF) will have a post-game event outside of Joe Faber Field for all fans to watch.
