
Dingler Extends Hitting Streak But Erie Falls to Altoona

The SeaWolves fell to the Altoona Curve in the second straight one-run game of the series, 2-1, on Friday night at UPMC Park.
Erie took the lead in the last of the second against Altoona starter Omar Cruz when Kerry Carpenter blasted a solo home run to right with one out for a 1-0 lead. The home run was Carpenter's fifth of the season.
Altoona quickly tied the game in the third against Erie starter Austin Bergner. Jared Triolo walked with two outs and stole second. He scored on a Lolo Sanchez base hit.
Bergner took a no-decision allowing a run on three hits with a pair of walks and a strikeout in five innings. It was the second straight start for Bergner going five strong frames and he's allowed just one earned run over his last 10 innings pitched.
Altoona took the lead in the top of the sixth against Erie reliever Brendan White. Sanchez led off with a base hit and stole second. Blake Sabol doubled home Sanchez for a 2-1 Curve lead.
The SeaWolves had a runner in scoring position in both the seventh and ninth innings but could not plate the game-tying run.
Cruz (2-2) earned the win for Altoona allowing a run on four this with four strikeouts in five innings.
White (0-1) took the loss allowing a run on two hits with three strikeouts.
Colin Selby earned his third save by tossing a scoreless ninth.
Erie catcher Dillon Dingler extended his hitting streak to eight straight games. Dingler is now 15 for his last 29 at the plate and has collected four straight multi-hit games.
