El Paso Diablos News Release

The El Paso Diablos threw their first combined shut-out of the season, downing the Lincoln Salt Dogs 1-0 in series opener from Haymarket Park, in Lincoln, NE.

Jusef Frias shut down the Saltdogs in the first three innings, striking out four and allowing just two base hits.

The Diablos broke a scoreless tie in the top of the fourth inning. Matt Kent smashed a solo-home run to left center field giving El Paso a 1-0 lead.

The Saltdogs threatened heavy in the bottom of the ninth inning. Lincoln had the tieing run at second, and the go ahead run at first. With one away, Mario Delgado bounced a ball up the middle, Evan Conley tossed to Bryan Cooksey for the force at second base. The lead runner, Eduardo Rios rounded third base, and was thrown out during a run-down to end the contest.

Jusef Frias (2-2) is the victor. He tossed seven shut-out innings allowing six hits with no walks and six strikeouts.

Ryan Dittfurth (3-3) takes the hard-luck loss. He threw seven and two thirds innings allowing one earned run off of six hits with four walks and eight strikeouts.

Mike Cervera threw the scoreless ninth inning for his second save of the season.

The Diablos will take on the Saltdogs in the second game of their series on Wednesday night at 6:05 PM MST.
