Garcia Gets AirHogs Past Pelicans 5-1

Pensacola, FL (06.17.08) - Justin Garcia struck out an AirHogs season-high nine batters, as Grand Prairie got by the Pensacola Pelicans 5-1 on Tuesday evening. Garcia (4-1) went 6.1 innings and allowed just one run on three hits with a season-high nine strikeouts and one walk. Grand Prairie got on the board first in the top of the second inning. J.B Tucker led off with a single and advanced to second on a dropped pop-up in right field by Rafael Alvarez on a Cody Merrell swing. After reaching third base on a ground out, Tucker would score the AirHog's first run on an RBI single for David Espinosa to shallow right field. With two away in the top of the third inning, J.B. Tucker came up with a towering two run homer to left field, giving Grand Prairie the 3-0 lead. Pensacola cut their deficit to 3-1 in the bottom of the fourth inning. Brandon Sing, the league's homerun leader, smashed a deep shot over the left field wall. The AirHogs went up 4-1 in the top of the sixth inning. Tucker led off with a double off the wall in left center field. He advanced to third on a Merrell sacrifice bunt. Drew Holder came up with the sacrifice fly to center field to bring Tucker home. Grand Prairie added one more insurance run in the top of the ninth. With two outs, Edwin Maldonado drilled a line drive down the right field line that scored Noel Trevino from third. Jason Hurst tried coming in as well, but he was thrown out at home plate to end the inning. Grand Prairie had 13 hits on the game and has now averaged 13 hits over their last three. Four of their five runs tonight came with two away. J.B. Tucker finished the day 3-for-4 with three runs and two RBIs. Zach Cline (2-2) earned the loss for Pensacola. He pitched seven innings, surrendering four runs, three earned, off 10 hits with two strikeouts.

The AirHogs will close out their three-game-series with Pensacola on Wednesday night at 6:35 PM. RHP Scot Drucker (2-3, 3.24 ERA) will face RHP John Webb (3-2, 3.90 ERA).
