Pensacola Pelicans News Release
A lively crowd enjoyed the Pensacola Pelicans and Grand Prairie AirHogs game tonight in Pensacola. Pensacola's Brandon Sing scored the Pels only run of the night, a solo homerun, his league leading eleventh long ball of the season. The AirHogs scored five runs on 13 hits to win 5-1.
The AirHogs posted the first run of the game scoring one run on two hits and one error in the top of the second inning. JB Tucker led off the inning with a broken bat single over the extended arms of Pelicans shortstop Scott Madsen. The next batter then hit a lazy fly-ball in which Rafael Alvarez misplayed. David Espinosa later drove in Tucker for the first run of the game.
Grand Prairie added two more runs in the third inning by way of a two-run homerun from JB Tucker. Michael Conroy singled and scored on the long ball.
Pensacola got on the board in the bottom of the fourth inning with a moon-shot from Brandon Sing over the left field party deck. That was Sing's league leading eleventh homer of the season, making the score 3-1.
The AirHogs executed some perfect baseball in the sixth inning to score another run. Tucker led the inning with a double and moved to third on a sacrifice bunt from Cody Merrell. Tucker scored two batters later on a sacrifice fly to center by Drew Holder, making the score 4-1.
AirHogs starting pitcher Justin Garcia picked up the win to improve to 4-1 on the season. He gave up one run on three hits while striking out nine in six and one thirds innings of work.
In the ninth, Grand Prairie added an insurance run when Edwin Maldonado doubled down the right field line to score Noel Travino who singled with two outs. The Pelicans got runners on in the bottom but were unable to plate a run to make the final score 5-1.
The third and final game of this series will be on Wednesday at 6:35 p.m. Central Time at Pelican Park in Pensacola, FL. John Webb takes the mound for Pensacola while Scot Drucker gets the start for Grand Prairie.
