Southwest Michigan Devil Rays News Release
BATTLE CREEK, Mich. -- The Southwest Michigan Devil Rays were answered every time they scored a run by the West Michigan Whitecaps in a 13-8 loss Friday night at C.O. Brown Stadium.
John Jaso continued his torrid hitting with his 13th double and 11th home run including four RBI, but the Whitecaps offense answered every run with one or more of their own. The Rays lost leads of 1-0 and 2-1. A six run inning in the fifth knocked Devil Rays starter Brandon Mann out of the game.
Reliever Lavelle Morgan was hurt by Southwest Michigan's three errors in allowing six runs, but only two were earned. Down 13-3, the Rays came up with a five-run outburst in the ninth to make a run at it but ultimately fell short.
Tommy Nichols and Chris Nowak had the team's other RBI. Fernando Perez upped his Midwest League leading total of stolen bases to 28 with two tonight. West Michigan scored six runs in the fifth and five additional in the eighth innings.
The Devil Rays will face West Michigan on Saturday night at 7:05 p.m. Rays General Manager Martie Cordaro will have his head shaved before the game to thank the fans for bringing the franchise its first hard sellout in multiple seasons. LHP James Houser (4-3) will start for the Rays against RHP Jair Jurrjens (5-2) for West Michigan.
