Burlington Bees News Release

Burlington, IA (June 10, 2005) - The Kansas City Royals and Burlington Bees announce three roster moves today: RHP Gabe DeHoyos returns to the Bees from Triple-A Omaha, RHP Rusty Begnaud has been re-assigned to short-season Idaho Falls, and 1B Miguel Vega has been placed on the disabled list. The Bees active roster now stands at 24.

DeHoyos started the season with the Bees and was 2-0 with a 1.52 ERA in eleven appearances, including his first professional start on May 12th. In 29.2 innings, he allowed 21 hits and twelve runs (five earned) while walking eleven and striking out 35. He was promoted to Omaha on May 27th and has made just two appearances with the Royals. He pitched a total of 2.1 innings and allowed seven runs (six earned) on three hits while walking five and striking out none. He will return to the Bees bullpen.

Begnaud leaves the Bees after nine appearances and one start. He has no record, an 8.49 ERA, and one save on the year. In 11.2 IP, he has allowed 22 hits and eleven runs while walking four, striking out five, and allowing four home runs. Begnaud suffered a major setback early in the year when he severely sprained his right ankle on April 14th while pitching against Kane County and was on the disabled list from April 16-May 9th. Begnaud will report to the Royals spring training complex in Surprise, AZ for mini-camp before reporting to Idaho Falls for the start of the Pioneer League season. With this change, Begnaud will get to return to being a starting pitcher rather than work in relief.

Vega goes on the DL with a sprained left thumb. It is the second time this season he has dealt with a thumb injury and he may require surgery pending word from the Royals' doctors in Kansas City, whom Vega visited on Tuesday. Vega is batting .244 with two home runs and 10 RBI in 33 games for the Bees this year.

The Bees are in action tonight at Community Field with a double-header against the Ft. Wayne Wizards starting at 6:00. The teams are playing two to make up for a rainout in Ft. Wayne on April 26th. RH Patrick Green (3-4, 4.01) will start game one for the Bees against RH Luke Steidlmayer (6-2, 1.90) for the Wizards. Game two will feature RH Greg Atencio (2-2, 4.26) making his first start of the year for the Bees against RH Vern Sterry (2-2, 5.35) also making his first start for the Wizards. The gates will open at 5:00 for a TGI Bud Night featuring 2-for-$3 specials on all cans of Budweiser products throughout the game and the start of Ft. Madison/Highway 61 Community Weekend. Fans from any town along Highway 61 from Wapello to Ft. Madison can show ID at the ticket window and get $3 admission into the game all weekend at Community Field.
