Detroit Recalls Svechnikov and Reassigns Sadowy

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Detroit Red Wings on Thursday recalled forward Evgeny Svechnikov from the Grand Rapids Griffins and reassigned forward Dylan Sadowy to the Griffins from the ECHL's Toledo Walleye.

In his second season as a professional, the 21-year-old Svechnikov has tallied 22 points (7-15-22) and 56 penalty minutes in 52 appearances with the Griffins.

During his rookie campaign in 2016-17, the 6-foot-3, 208-pound winger ranked third on the Griffins in scoring with 51 points (20-31-51) in 74 games while also placing among the American Hockey League's first-year leaders in points (4th), goals (T7th), assists (9th). Svechnikov suited up in all 19 of the team's playoff games and added 12 points (5-7-12), third-most among the league's rookie players, helping the Griffins win the 2017 Calder Cup. Svechnikov made his AHL debut with the Griffins during the 2016 Calder Cup Playoffs and posted one assist in two games, joining the team after two years with Cape Breton of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League.

Detroit's first-round draft selection, 19th overall, in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft, Svechnikov made his debut with the Red Wings last April 3 versus Ottawa and scored the winning goal in the shootout. Becoming the 164th Griffins alumnus to play in the NHL, Svechnikov logged two games with Detroit and totaled four shots while averaging 13:08 of ice time.

Prior to turning pro, Svechnikov played in 105 games for Cape Breton from 2014-16 and recorded 157 points (64-93-157) to go along with a plus-45 rating and 167 PIM. He notched 32 goals in both seasons and his 78 points in 2014-15 landed him a spot on the QMJHL All-Rookie Team.

A native of Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk, Russia, Svechnikov played two seasons in Russia before coming to North America and he made his pro debut with Ak Bars Kazan of the Kontinental Hockey League, appearing in three games. He represented his country at the 2016 World Junior Championship and helped the Russians take home a silver medal.

Sadowy, a second-year pro, has totaled 28 points (11-17-28), a plus-seven rating and 20 PIM in 37 games with the conference-leading Walleye. His season-high nine-game point streak was snapped last Saturday.

A 6-foot-1, 210-pound winger, Sadowy has appeared in nine games with the Griffins this season and shows seven PIM.

As a rookie in 2016-17, Sadowy picked up six points (4-2-6) and 18 PIM in 38 regular season games with Grand Rapids and was a part of the team's Calder Cup championship. He also appeared in six games with the Walleye last season, posting four points (1-3-4) and 14 PIM.

Prior to turning professional, the Brampton, Ontario, native played four seasons (2012-16) in the Ontario Hockey League, where he totaled 188 points (116-72-188), a plus-23 rating and 245 PIM in 258 regular season games. He posted back-to-back 40-goal seasons, scoring 42 with Saginaw in 2014-15 before banking 45 in 2015-16 between Saginaw and Barrie.

San Jose's fifth choice, 81st overall, in the 2014 NHL Entry Draft, Sadowy was acquired by the Red Wings in May 2016.

The Griffins head to Pennsylvania this weekend to take on the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins on Saturday at 7:05 p.m. and the Hershey Bears on Sunday at 5 p.m.
