PREVIEW: With 16 games remaining in the first half of the season, the Shorebirds have their back against the wall in the divisional race. Delmarva dropped both games of yesterday's twin bill in Greensboro, and along with Hagerstown's and Hickory's wins, the 'Birds have fallen back to third place and are 4.5 games out of first place. The Grasshoppers are the Class A Affiliate of the Miami Marlins and they are the hottest team in the league, having won 15 of their last 18 games since starting the year 13-24. Since the Shorebirds opened the season with a 4-6 mark and lost two of the first three series, they have a series record of 8-3-2 over their last 13 sets, going 26-17 over that stretch. Delmarva is looking to avoid being swept for the first time all year tonight.

TONIGHT'S OPPONENT: Right-hander Cody Poteet makes his 11th start of the season and his fourth already against the Shorebirds. Poteet is 1-1 with a 4.40 ERA in his three outings against the 'Birds, but his most recent start was fantastic. On May 23rd, Poteet fired six shutout frames and scattered just three hits. He hasn't allowed an earned run in his last three starts (spanning 15.1 innings). Poteet was drafted by the Marlins in the 4th round last summer out of UCLA. This is his 16th professional appearance and his 15th career start.

LAST GAME QUICK HITS: Delmarva lost both games of their double-header to Greensboro yesterday by scores of 5-3 and 2-1. The 'Birds hit three solo homers on the day (Cedric Mullins, Steve Laurino and Alex Murphy), but struggled to build any momentum against two very good starting pitchers. Jordan Holloway allowed only two base runners in five innings in the first contest, while Chuck Weaver gave up only two hits in six innings. Neither started issued a walk. Notably, Ademar Rifaela snapped his 27-game on-base streak in the first game.
