Charleston Dirty Birds News Release

(Augusta, GA) - The West Virginia Power fell 3-1 to the Augusta GreenJackets on Saturday at Lake Olmstead Stadium. The GreenJackets went 3-8 with runners in scoring position while sending the Power to the series loss.

Augusta opened the scoring with a run-scoring double by Miguel Gomez in the second inning off Power starter Bret Helton. The Power tied the game in the top of the fourth on a RBI single by Ryan Nagle. Nagle went 1-3 Saturday to extend his hitting streak to 11 straight; the longest streak by any Power player this season.

The GreenJackets recaptured the lead in the home half of the fourth on a single, a steal and a double by Kelvin Beltre. Augusta added an insurance run in the seventh and closed the scoring at 3-1.

Helton (2-5) took the loss despite a quality start. The right-hander worked six and two-thirds, allowing all three runs on five hits with two strikeouts. Matt Solter (1-0) earned the win with five innings of one -run ball in his South Atlantic league debut. Heath Slatton recorded the final out for his first save this season.

Ke'Bryan Hayes went 4-4, but the Power struggled getting runners in scoring position, having just three chances all game. Carlos Munoz went hitless and saw his seven-game hitting streak snapped.

West Virginia is off on Sunday and hosts Delmarva for a three game series starting Monday, June, 6 at Appalachian Power Park. Dario Agrazal and Christian Alvarado will start for the Power and Shorebirds, respectively.

First Half Record:

29-26
