Augusta GreenJackets News Release
Augusta, GA - The Augusta GreenJackets (28-27) took the finale of their 3-game series with the West Virginia Power Saturday evening at Lake Olmstead Stadium.
Recent call-up Matt Solter was the starting picture for Augusta. He pitched 5.0 innings, allowing just one run, and picked up his first win. Jake McCasland was strong out of the bullpen, pitching 3.0 innings and striking out three. Heath Slatton earned his first save of the season.
Offensive contributions came from Miguel Gomez and Kelvin Beltre who each knocked in RBI doubles. Gomez doubled in the second inning, scoring Matt Winn. Beltre doubled in Dylan Davis in the 4th inning. Junior Amion also got into the act with an RBI single in the 7th inning. The GreenJackets have won seven out of their last eight, and are over .500 on the season.
It was also the Guns & Hoses charity softball game earlier in the day, with the Police taking on the Firefighters to benefit the Police Benevolent Foundation and Southeastern Fire Fighters' Burn Foundation. Both teams slugged it out during the first inning, each scoring three runs a piece. However the pitching and defense came to play in the later innings, as each would settle to a 5-5 tie after seven innings.
The GreenJackets return back to action Monday evening against the Columbia Fireflies. It's Feed Your Face Monday - Carnival Night. Gates will open at 6:00pm and first pitch is scheduled for 7:05pm.
The 28th consecutive season of professional baseball in Augusta is underway.
