
Del Moral Deals Cougars to Sole Possession of 1st Place

Clinton, Iowa - The Kane County Cougars (57-44, 22-10) took sole possession of first place with a 4-2 win over the Clinton LumberKings (54-47, 21-11) on Thursday night at NelsonCorp Field. Adrian Del Moral tossed five shutout innings and was backed by a four-run fourth inning.
Neither team scored until the Cougars exploded in the top of the fourth. Blaze Alexander singled and Joey Rose reached on an error to set up Tim Susnara for an RBI single. A couple batters later, Geraldo Perdomo unloaded the bases with a double to make it 4-0 Cougars.
Del Moral carried (2-2) his weight on the mound, allowing only one hit in five shutout innings. He walked two and struck out two.
When Clinton got into the Cougars bullpen in the sixth inning, the LumberKings scored twice off Kenny Hernandez. Connor Scott drove in the first run with an RBI double and Peyton Burdick cut the lead in half with a run-scoring single.
Hernandez settled in to toss a scoreless seventh and eighth. Kai-Wei Lin (5) sturck out the side in order in the ninth to earn the save. Alberto Guerrero (4-5) allowed four runs (one earned) in 3.2 innings in his start for Clinton to take the loss.
