Late Comeback Attempt Not Enough as Beloit Gets Stung by Bees
July 25, 2019 - Midwest League (MWL1)
Beloit Sky Carp News Release
Burlington, IA - In a late-inning effort to comeback, the Beloit Snappers fell to the Burlington Bees by a final score of 5-3 to force the rubber match of the series tomorrow. Beloit scored 3 runs in the eighth inning, but it was a little too late against the Bees this evening.
Burlington would get the scoring started early and often scoring 5 unanswered runs through the first 7 innings of the game. In fact, it would not be until the eighth inning where the Snappers would get on the scoreboard, but unfortunately, it was a little too late.
In the eighth with the Snappers trailing 5-0, Beloit would get some traffic on the basepaths after a leadoff walk to Skyler Weber. After two strikeouts, Joseph Pena would reach on a fielding error to put runners on first and second with two outs.
Moments later, Max Schuemann walked to load the bases and immediately following, Bees pitcher Dylan King fired a wild pitch to plate Weber and the Snappers fire run of the game.
However, Beloit was not done yet...
With Payton Squire at the plate, he would rip a ball on the ground plating both Schuemann and Pena and cutting the Snappers deficit to just 2 in the final stages of this one.
Unfortunately for Beloit, that would be all the scoring the rest of the game for either team, as the Bees would go on to defeat the Snappers 5-3.
On the mound, Beloit received a quality start from starter Angello Infante who threw five strong innings. Infante will be tabbed with the tough loss, but only surrendered two runs, while punching out 2 and scattering 6 hits on the evening.
Josh Reagan would close the final innings out on the mound for Beloit and was absolutely marvelous. Reagan would conclude his night after one and two-third innings pitched surrendering no hits nor runs and punching out two.
Beloit will wrap up this series with Burlington tomorrow when the Snappers take on the Bees in the final game of the series and deciding game of the series. The Snappers will then return home on Saturday to open up an 8-game homestand with fireworks on Saturday and the Snappers Blanket Giveaway this Sunday.
