
Diaz Doubles Twice but Chiefs Fall Thursday

Davenport, IA - The Peoria Chiefs matched the hosts with six hits but fell 3-0 to the Quad Cities River Bandits on Thursday night to even the series. In just his second game with the Chiefs, Imeldo Diaz had two doubles and was named the Pekin Insurance Beyond the Expected Player of the Game.
The Chiefs loaded the bases in the second inning against Brett Daniels. Ivan Herrera singled, Brandon Riley walked and with one out Brandon Benson singled. Daniels retired the next two batters to keep the game scoreless.
Mike Brettell retired the first 14 River Bandits he faced in the game. But a solo homer with two outs in the fifth put Quad Cities on top 1-0. They added two more in the sixth inning on a one-out single.
Three of the Chiefs six hits in the game were doubles, two by Diaz and one by Jonatan Machado. Benson also had two hits, both singles and Herrera had the sixth hit. Brettell needed just 67 pitches to get through seven innings but took the loss as he allowed three runs on six hits in his second straight quality start.
The series concludes at 6:35 p.m. Friday in Davenport. The broadcast, begins with the Pre-Game Show at 6:20 p.m. on the Peoria Chiefs Tune-In Page, which is free and also has a free app for smartphones and tablets. The game is also available on MiLB.TV for subscribers.
The Chiefs return home on Saturday, July 27 to start a seven-game homestand.
