Defensive Miscues Doom Bowling Green in 5-2 Loss

Burlington, Iowa - The Bowling Green Hot Rods (Class-A/Tampa Bay Rays) committed a season-high five errors which helped lead to five Burlington Bees (Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim) runs, and the Bees went on to win on Wednesday night, 5-2. It was the most errors committed by a Hot Rods team since 2012 as Bowling Green dropped their fourth straight game.
The Bees plated four runs in the first inning to take a commanding lead. With one out, Chad Hinshaw started the rally with a single. Michael Fish the hit a groundball to Juniel Querecuto which looked like it could be an inning-ending double play, but Querecuto's throw was behind Kean Wong at second base, and both runners were safe. Eric Aguilera followed with a double to left field to score both Hinshaw and Fish. Following a walk to Angel Rosa, Anthony Bemboom doubled down the third-base line to score two more, and give the Bees a 4-0 lead.
Another error helped Burlington get their fifth run of the game. With two out, a throwing error by Querecuto allowed Hinshaw to reach and extended the inning. Fish then tripled to right-center field to extend the Bees lead to 5-0.
Bowling Green got on the board in the top of the third. With one out, James Harris launched a solo home run over the secondary ad signs in left field. His mammoth homer was his first as a Hot Rod, and it cut the lead to 5-1.
A Burlington error helped the Hot Rods score in the fourth. With two out, Alexander Simon grounded a ball to Kody Eaves, but he mishandled it and the ball went into right field to allow Simon to reach at first base. Kean Wong followed with a triple into the gap in right-center field to score Simon. Wong has now hit safely in 43 of his 51 professional games. It trimmed the lead to 5-2, but it would also be the final run of the game for either team.
Ryan Etsell (1-0) worked five innings for Burlington, allowing two runs on four hits to get the win. Joey Krehbiel was the final man out of the bullpen and picked up his second save of the season.
Jake Faria (0-1) had a deceiving final line because of the miscues, he allowed a total of five runs, two of them unearned, to go along with three strikeouts in four innings. Luis Cabrera and Colton Reavis combined to hurl four shutout innings out of the Hot Rod bullpen.
The Hot Rods will wrap-up their series with Burlington on Thursday morning. Jordan Harrison (0-0, 1.80) will try to end the streak for Bowling Green, and build upon his first start of the season.
