
Clinton Lumbers Past Captains 4-1

Lake County Captains News Release
(Clinton, IA)- Joe DeCarlo cracked his first homerun of the season in the bottom of the fourth inning, which helped Clinton to the 4-1 win over the Captains. Decarlo entered the game batting .063 with just one hit, until the homer. The loss snapped the Captains (4-2) four game win streak.
Clinton (3-3) scored first in the bottom of the third inning. With two outs, Ian Miller ripped a triple to the right field gap. Marcus Littlewood walked to put runners at the corners and two outs. Jack Reinheimer smashed a double down the left field line and both runners scored it was 2-0 Clinton.
The Captains scored in the top of the eighth inning. With one out, Cody Ferrell doubled down the left field line. Dorssys Paulino doubled home Ferrell and the Captains were down 4-1. The RBI was Paulino's first of the season.
LHP Luis Lugo (0-1) got the start for Lake County and took the loss. Lugo pitched just three and two thirds innings. Lugo allowed four earned runs on four hits. He walked four and struck out three. Kenny Matews pitched one and one third innings of scoreless baseball. Mathews allowed one hit, one walk and two strikeouts. Robbie Aviles entered in relief for the Captains and twirled three scoreless innings and allowed just one hit. Aviles fanned five.
The LumberKings RHP Edwin Diaz (1-1) started and earned the win. Diaz pitched five innings and surrendered two hits, two walks and he set down eight Captains on strikes. Diaz is the 5th best prospect in the Seattle organization according to Baseball America. Leoncio Munoz pitched two and two thirds innings allowing one earned run on three hits. Munoz struck out three. Rafael Pineda struck out one in his inning and one third of work. Pineda earned the four out save, his second on the season.
The Captains will stay in Clinton, Iowa on Thursday to take on the LumberKings in the finale of a three game series. RHP Dace Kime (0-0, 13.50) will start for the Captains and the LumberKings will counter with LHP Eddie Campbell (1-0, 0.00). First Pitch is at 7:30 PM from Ashford University Field.
