Mahoning Valley Scrappers News Release

State College, PA- A Disturbing trend has taken hold of the Mahoning Valley Scrappers. With another 3 error performance on Sunday evening, the Scrappers have now committed at least 3 errors in 4 consecutive games. The errors combined with 14 State College hits led to the Scrappers falling 12-3.

The Scrappers came out and grabbed an early lead in the 3rd inning. Josh McAdams started the inning with a double. He moved to third base on a single by Sicnarf Loopstok. Juan Romero then singled to right field to score McAdams. Cody Ferrell reached on a fielder's choice to put runner on the corners. Juan Herrera then drove in Loopstok and Ferrell on a double to left field. The Scrappers wouldn't threaten again.

Luis Lugo (1-2) started on the mound and cruised through the first 3 innings. In the 4th Cesar Valera started the inning with a triple. He then scored on Mason Katz's infield single to make it a 3-1 game. In the 5th the Spikes took the lead for good. A leadoff walk by Matthew Young would come back to haunt Lugo when Jimmy Bosco tripled to drive in Young. Valera then doubled home Bosco to tie the game. A groundout and a balk would allow Valera to score to give the Spikes the lead for good.

Lugo was relieved by Harold Guerrero who allowed 5 runs in an inning of work, the big blast coming on an Alex De Leon 2 run homerun. Manuel Carmona finished out the game by allowing 3 runs as well.

The Scrappers and Spikes will continue their series on Monday evening at 7:05pm. The Scrappers return home on Wednesday, July 10th to begin a 6 game home stand. Call the Scrappers box office at 330-505-0000 to get your tickets.
