Hudson Valley Doubles Up Vermont 4-2 On Sunday

BURLINGTON, VT ---  Hudson Valley collected six of its eight hits, including three doubles, while scoring two runs in both the fourth and fifth innings of a 4-2 win over the Vermont Lake Monsters in New York-Penn League action Sunday evening at historic Centennial Field.

Jonathan Quinonez doubled and scored on an RBI single from Omar Narvaez, who scored on a Darryl George RBI double for a 2-0 Hudson Valley lead in the fourth inning. The Renegades added a pair of runs in the fifth on a two-out, two-run single from Quinonez for a 4-0 advantage..

All four runs came off Vermont starter Brent Powers, who entered the game having allowed just one run on nine hits over 16 innings in his first three starts. Powers (4-0) gave up four runs and seven hits in five innings of work on Sunday. Jose Torres, making his first relief appearance after three starts, allowed just one hit over four scoreless innings of relief for the Lake Monsters.

Hudson Valley starter Jordan Harrison (4-1) allowed just one hit, a B.J. Boyd infield single in the first, with three walks and two strikeouts over five scoreless innnings to earn his league-leading fourth win of the season. Vermont got on the scoreboard in the sixth when Ryan Huck doubled and scored on a throwing error by shortstop Pat Blair on a two-out groundball by Chad Pinder.

Huck collected his second double of the game in the eighth on a one-out flyball to straight away centerfield to score Boyd, who had just walked. But reliever Harem Sidhu struckout potential-tying runs Pinder and Jaycob Brugman to end the threat.  Sidhu allowed one run on two hits with four strikeouts over the final three innings for his first save of season.

The Lake Monsters had just four hits in the game, the fifth time in nine home games that Vermont (8-12) has had four hits or less. Ariel Soriano, Quinonez and Navarez each had two hits for Hudson Valley, which leads the McNamara Division with a 13-8 record.

The Lake Monsters and Renegades will play the second of the three-game series at Centennial on Monday night at 7:05 pm and conclude the brief homestand with a special start time of 11:05 am on Wednesday.
