-SPIKES START SET VS. SCRAPPERS TONIGHT: The State College Spikes begin the second half of a stretch of six straight home games tonight as they face the Mahoning Valley in the opener of a three-game set at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park. The Spikes are currently 1 1/2 games back of Jamestown in the Pinckney Division. The two teams split a pair of games at Eastwood Field last week in their first series of the year. Mahoning Valley leads the all-time series, 38-34, but State College has taken 21 of the 35 contests held between the two teams and Medlar Field at Lubrano Park.

-LAST GAME: A four-run first inning gave the State College Spikes a lot of cushion on Saturday night, and David Washington's second home run of the year provided the exclamation point as the Spikes topped the Batavia Muckdogs, 5-2, at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park. Carson Kelly's two-out, two-run double was the key hit in State College's initial surge, sandwiched between a Mason Katz sacrifice fly and an RBI single from Ronald Castillo. Washington's solo home run in the third inning came off Batavia reliever Justin Jackson, and gave the Spikes a 5-0 lead they would not relinquish. Chris Perry earned the win after allowing two runs, one earned, on six hits and a walk over six innings of work. The right-hander also struck out five.

-BROOKSHIRE MAKES PRO DEBUT FOR SPIKES TONIGHT: Left-hander Chase Brookshire makes the first start of his professional career tonight as he heads the hill for the Spikes. Brookshire, the 20th-round draft choice of the Cardinals this year, went on the Disabled List shortly after joining the Spikes, and was activated on Friday. The Belmont University product set career records for strikeouts and innings pitched at his alma mater. Brookshire will be followed on the mound in a "piggyback" setup by right-hander Kevin Herget, who is 2-0 with a 1.35 ERA in two official outings this year.

-LUGO GETS THE BALL FOR SCRAPPERS: Left-hander Luis Lugo gets the ball for Mahoning Valley tonight in his second outing against the Spikes. Lugo, ranked as the 13th-best prospect in the Cleveland Indians by Baseball America prior to the season, was signed by the Indians out of Venezuela in 2011. The southpaw was stellar in his last start against State College, as he allowed just one hit and retired the last 14 batters he faced, five by strikeout, in five innings of work. Lugo's last outing was a rain-shortened one-inning stint against Jamestown on Tuesday.

-CASTILLO CELEBRATES RETURN TO LINEUP: Outfielder Ronald Castillo was back in the lineup last night for the first time since leaving Wednesday's game at Mahoning Valley. Castillo played left field and went 2-for-3 with an RBI to increase his hitting streak to ten games, which ties him for the longest current streak in the NYPL.

-SPIKE MARKS: RHP Brady Adamek, the Spikes' save leader with three, was called up to Single-A Peoria today...Jimmy Bosco jumped into a tie for second in the NYPL in extra-base hits, notching his 11th with a triple last night...The Spikes are 8-0 this year when a game is decided by three or more runs
