
Yankees Rally Past Tigers In 6-2 Win

Staten Island, NY - July 7th - The Staten Island Yankees batted around and scored five runs in the eighth inning as they defeated the Connecticut Tigers 6-2 on Sunday.
Mike O'Neill led off the inning with a single to center before moving to second on a wild pitch. O'Neill later scored when Brandon Thomas reached on a fielding error by shortstop Javier Azcona. Jose Rosario then singled before Daniel Lopez walked. Up next, John Murphy hit a three-run double to left field, giving Staten Island a three-run advantage. But the Yankees weren't done yet, as Murphy also came around to score when Isaias Tejeda singled on a fly ball to left.
Dillon McNamara picked up his second win in relief after tossing the last 2.0 innings for Staten Island. He allowed one hit and one walk. Giovanny Gallegos, who started for the Yankees, pitched 5.0 innings and gave up one earned run off three hits while fanning five batters.
Connecticut's Scott Sitz suffered the blown save and loss. He hurled just 0.2 innings, but was tagged for five earned runs.
The Yankees were first on the board as Rosario hit a one-out double in the second before moving to third on a single to left hit off the bat of right fielder Daniel Lopez. Murphy then hit a sacrifice fly to centerfield to plate Rosario and give the Yankees a 1-0 lead.
The Tigers got even in the fourth, knotting the game at 1-1 when second baseman Dominic Ficociello hit his first home run of the year over the right field wall.
Connecticut pulled ahead in the sixth, when Austin Schotts scored on a ground out by Ficociello. Schotts had singled on a ground ball to third to reach base and advanced to second when Kasey Coffman walked.
The Yankees will take on the Connecticut Tigers again tomorrow at home. First pitch is scheduled for 7:00PM. RHP Jairo Heredia (1-1, 2.33 ERA) will toe the mound for the Yankees, while LHP Joe Mantiply (0-1, 1.04 ERA) is expected to get the ball for the Tigers.
