NORWICH, CT- The Defenders & Sea Dogs entered into an extra inning slugfest with Connecticut (40-31) coming out on top with a dramatic 3-2 walk-off victory in the 13th inning at Dodd Stadium.

RF-Eddy Martinez-Esteve's RBI single up the middle plated 1B-Brett Pill for the game winner who singled with one out. The Defenders evened the series at one game a piece setting up the rubber match for tomorrow.

Connecticut got out to the early lead in the second inning as DH-Adam Witter drove in LF-Bobby Felmy with a sac fly to deep centerfield.

Portland quickly responded in the third inning after a leadoff walk and stolen base by RF-Reid Engel followed by 2B-Ryan Khoury's RBI single to tie the game.

In the eighth, the Sea Dogs found a way to take their first lead of the game. 2B-Brock Bond dropped a routine infield popup allowing Khoury to reach base, 3B-Jorge Jimenez singled-placing runners on the corners. With the infield in, 1B-Lars Anderson chopped one to Bond who fired home to retire Khoury and keep the game tied but a pitching change for Connecticut brought in RHP-Waldis Joaquin who sent a wild pitch to the backstop allowing Jimenez to score.

Trailing by one in the ninth, LF-Bobby Felmy leadoff with a double to left and moved to third on a sac bunt fielder's choice by Martinez-Esteve when Anderson attempted to get Felmy at third. Pinch Hitter-Sharlon Schoop then delivered a sac fly to right to drive in Felmy and tie the game at two.

Sea Dogs RHP-Chad Rhoades (4-1) gave up three consecutive singles in the thirteenth and the eventual game winner to suffer the loss. Defender's reliever, RHP-Mike Musgrave (3-0) picked up the win.

Both teams meet tomorrow in the rubber match as LHP-Madison Bumgarner (4-1) takes the hill for Connecticut and LHP-Kason Gabbard (0-1) counters for Portland. First pitch is slated for 6:35pm.
