Midwest Sliders of Ypsilanti News Release
The Kalamazoo Kings steal the first game of the series with the Midwest Sliders of Ypsilanti 6-4. Midwest scored three runs in the bottom of the 9th and brought the tying run to the plate, but it was to little to late for the Sliders.
The Kings started the second inning with a single, error, then a sacrifice fly which drove in the first run of the game. They tagged on another run in the top of the fourth off three consecutive singles, putting them up 2-0.
Sam DeLuca provided Midwest's first run with a solo homer in the fifth. DeLuca went 3-4 on the night and drove in two runs.
Kalamazoo scored again in the sixth, and three in the eighth off reliever Earl Oakes.
Midwest put together four hits in the ninth scoring three runs, and had a runner thrown out at home only to lose by two. John Brownell got the win throwing eight innings allowing all four runs, and Tommy Meija earned his seventh save coming in a jam in the ninth.
Kyle Kearcher lost his fourth game of the season, but didn't have a bad outing going six innings only allowing two earned runs, while striking out six batters.
Tomorrow's game starts at 7:05 at EMU's Oestrike stadium, Dexter's own Mike Penn will take the mound on tomorrow for the Sliders.
