Traverse City Beach Bums News Release

TRAVERSE CITY, Mich. - The Traverse City Beach Bums rallied from a 3-0 deficit late, but fell to the Washington Wild Things 4-3 in 10 innings on Wednesday night.

Brett Bostelman made his seventh start of the season for the Beach Bums and worked out of trouble in the second and fifth innings to preserve a scoreless affair. Bostelman had runners at second and third with no outs following a single and a double in the second but did not allow a run and he left the bases loaded in the fifth.

Washington was finally able to cash in against Bostelman in the sixth. Jacob Dempsey posted a one-out double and Phil Laurent followed with a walk. Both runners scored on a two-out triple off the bat of catcher Alan Robbins. Bostelman did not factor in the decision, throwing six innings and allowing two runs on six hits to go along with three walks and five strikeouts.

Alan Robbins drove home the third run for Washington in the top of the eighth, lifting a sacrifice fly to score Phil Laurent, who doubled to start the inning off of Jared Locke.

Traverse City tied the game in the eighth inning. Washington starter Zach Groh did not allow a run through his first seven frames but could not escape the eighth. He hit Brad Miller to start the inning and allowed a single to James Guerrero with one out. Closer Nick Peterson entered and walked John Alonso with two outs to load the bases. A wild pitch enabled Miller to score the first run. Mike Victor popped up on a 3-1 offering, but the ball dropped in the middle of the Washington infield to score two runs and tie the game.

Another sacrifice fly by Alan Robbins in the 10th put the Wild Things ahead for good. Jacob Dempsey drew a leadoff walk by Beach Bums reliever David Hurst (2-1), was sacrificed to second, moved to third on a single, and Robbins drove him home.

James Guerrero, Brad Miller, and Mike Victor all had two hits in the game for the Beach Bums (16-15). Both of Miller's hits went for extra bases. Mike Victor drove home two.

The Beach Bums will continue the series with Washington tomorrow evening with a 7:05 pm game. RHP Jason Kiley (2-3, 4.81) takes the ball for the Beach Bums while Washington will send LHP Jason Neitz (3-1, 7.59). The contest will be the first Thirsty Thursday of the season, featuring $1 off all beer and fountain soft drinks. It is also Rock the House With Bluestar Landscape Supply Night as the first 500 fans ages 13 and over will receive a tape measure.
