Rockford RiverHawks News Release
MARION, Ill. - Kyle Wright struck out a career-high 11 batters on Wednesday as the Rockford RiverHawks beat the Southern Illinois Miners, 7-3.
Wright (4-1) won his fourth consecutive decision. The veteran right-hander went eight innings and held the Miners to two runs, one earned, on three hits and four walks. Wright struck out five of the first nine batters he faced.
The RiverHawks rallied for three runs in the second inning to take a 3-1 lead and never trailed again. Caleb Fields tripled home two runs and scored on Ben Blumenthal's single to center field. Fields was 2-for-4 with a double and extended his hitting streak to 10 games.
Two other RiverHawks extended lengthy hitting streaks. Ross McCoy was 1-for-4 and extended his streak to 11 games. Jason James was 1-for-5 and his streak is at 22 games.
Rockford scored four times in the third inning to knock out Southern Illinois starter Tony Bradley (3-2). James singled in a run, moved to third on a Robert Sabates double and scored on a McCoy groundout. Todd Martin drove Bradley from the mound with a towering two-run homer to right field.
The three-game series continues at 7:05 p.m. Thursday.
The RiverHawks come home for a three-game series against Gateway on June 30. They open the homestand with a Two-For Tuesday. Tickets are two for the price of one, and so are hot dogs.
