Lake Erie Crushers News Release

Florence, KY - Offense was the story at Champion Window Field on Wednesday night as the Lake Erie Crushers and Florence Freedom combined for 20 runs on 21 hits. In the end, it was the Freedom getting the better end of the Crushers as Florence took game one of the series 11-9.

Andrew Davis was the story of the game for Lake Erie, as the third baseman finished the night four-for-five with two home runs, four RBI, and three runs scored. Luke Hetherington added a solo home run for the Crushers in the second inning that gave Lake Erie their only lead of the night. The Freedom scored four times in the second and would add five runs in the fourth and two more in the fifth to take an 11-6 lead over the Crushers.

But Davis would not quit as his second homer of the game, a three-run shot, in the sixth brought the Crushers to within 11-9. But neither team would score after that as the two bullpens would trade zeroes for the rest of the night.

Josh Faiola suffered his fourth loss of the year for the Crushers, as he allowed seven runs on seven hits in three innings of work. Moises Melendez picked up the win for the Freedom and Jonathan Miller recorded his fifth save. The Crushers got quality relief in the bullpen from Cristobal Mata and Shannon Sprouse as the two combined to toss two-and-a-third scoreless innings.

The Crushers and Freedom will continue their three game series on Thursday night at Champion Window Field with Brad Davidson scheduled to start for Lake Erie against Everett Saul. Game time is set for 7:05 PM.
