
Defenders Throw Away 6-5 Loss to Binghamton

BINGHAMTON, NY- The Defenders got themselves into another wild ballgame but this time around ended up on the losing end as they fell 6-5 to the Binghamton B-Mets in eleven innings at NYSEG Stadium.
The B-Mets 1B-Nick Evans scored the game winning run when Defenders reliever, RHP-Dan Griffin sent a wild throw over the head of third baseman David Maroul in attempts to get the lead runner after fielding a sac bunt by 2B-Shawn Bowman.
Connecticut struck first in the fourth inning off a SS-Sharlon Schoop RBI double to plate RF-Eddy Martinez-Esteve who singled with one out, Defenders lead 1-0.
Binghamton wasted no time responding in the home half of the inning taking advantage 3B-Shawn Bowman getting aboard after being hit by a pitch and later scored on a SS-Jose Coronado RBI single to tie the game at one.
Defenders starter, RHP-Tim Alderson allowed one earned run off of seven hits and struck out three in five innings of work before handing the ball to the bullpen in his no decision.
The B-Mets took their first lead of the game in the sixth inning off reliever LHP- Matt Yourkin, scoring a pair of runs. LF-Lucas Duda leadoff with a single, Bowman walked and RF-D.J. Wabick plated the first run with an RBI single followed by a 2B-Ruben Tejada RBI double, Binghamton led 3-1.
The Defenders quickly grabbed the lead back in the top of the seventh inning with a one out double by LF-Mike Mooney, RBI triple by Maroul, intentional walk to C-Jackson Williams, RBI pinch hit single by Bobby Felmy and a two RBI bloop single to right field by CF-Mike McBryde to give Connecticut a 5-3 advantage.
Binghamton trimmed the lead to one in the eighth before tying it in the ninth. With Defenders closer, Dan Otero on the hill seeking out his twelvth save of the year, the B-Mets had runners on the corners. SS-Jose Coronado pulled a chopper on the right side of the infield which 2B-Brock Bond fielded on the right field grass and then spun and fired a throw late to first for the final out allowing Bowman to score and tie the game at 5-5.
Dan Griffin (2-4) suffered the loss tossing one inning, allowed one hit, one unearned run, and walked one. B-Mets reliever, LHP Edgar Alfonzo (2-1) picked up the win in one inning of scoreless ball.
Both teams will meet tomorrow in the series finale at 10:35am in a matchup of Defenders RHP-Henry Sosa (3-0) and B-Mets RHP-Tobi Stoner (1-1). Catch all the action online at ctdefenders.com starting at 10:20am with the Defenders Pre-Game Show.
