
Rock Cats Fall to Thunder

New Britain, CT - Trenton's Ivan Nova hurled eight impressive innings and Chris Malec and Justin Snyder both homered to power the Thunder to a 5-1 win over the Rock Cats on Wednesday night.
Malec gave Trenton an early 1-0 lead with a solo home run to right field off Rock Cats starter Cole Devries in the top of the first. DeVries ran into trouble in the second with two walks sandwiched between a single by Kyle Anson to load the bases with one out. DeVries fielded a James Cooper grounder back to the mound and fired home for the force out. Eduardo Nunez knocked in a run with a single to put the Thunder ahead, 2-0 before DeVries forced Colin Curtis to fly out to end the inning.
The Rock Cats closed the gap in the third when Yancarlos Ortiz beat out an infield hit to start off the inning and came around to score on a single by Steve Tolleson.
Kevin Smith had an RBI single for the Thunder in the sixth. Snyder added a two-run homer in the ninth off Anthony Slama.
Nova (4-3) limited the Rock Cats to five hits and one run in eight innings. He struck out six. Amaury Sanit walked two batters in the ninth, but escaped the jam with a scoreless inning to notch his fourth save of the season.
DeVries (3-4) allowed three runs on six hits and three walks through five innings. He struck out three. Jose Lugo and Robert Delaney combined for three scoreless innings in relief for the âCats.
