Reading Fightin Phils News Release
The Reading Fightin Phils rallied in the latter half of Friday's game against the Binghamton Rumble Ponies but fell 3-1.
While they were only outhit by three, the Fightins left 15 runners on base in the contest. Carlos De La Cruz had two hits and the only RBI of the game for the R-Phils with a solo home run in the seventh. They also hit into four double plays.
Aldrem Corredor walked while De La Cruz and Luis Garcia each singled to load the bases. A pop out and a double play ended the frame.
Binghamton scored one run in the top of the fourth. With the bases loaded and one out, the R-Phils couldn't turn two to end the frame and a run scored.
The lead increased to three on a two-run homer from Carlos Cortes in the following frame.
Reading led off the inning with two base runners as Garcia and McCarthy Tatum reached on a walk and single, respectively. Once again, the Rumble Ponies turned a double play to help them get out of the jam.
De La Cruz hit a solo shot to lead off the bottom of the seventh and score the R-Phils' first run of the game.
With two outs in the eighth, Wendell Rijo drilled a double to the corner in left field. He was stranded after a groundout ended the inning.
Griff McGarry started on the rubber for the Fightins and took the loss. He struck out the first four batters of the game and had six strikeouts through 3.1 innings before exiting the game with an apparent injury. He allowed one run on three hits and three walks.
Trevor Bettencourt got the final two outs of the fourth. He went 1.2 innings in relief, allowed two runs on three hits and struck out three.
Adam Leverett pitched two scoreless frames. He struck out one and didn't allow a hit.
Jack Perkins didn't allow a run over the final two innings. He gave up just three hits as he held the Rumble Ponies off the board to keep the game within reach.
The Fightins will play at FirstEnergy Stadium next on August 27 at 6:45 PM.
