Dayton Dragons News Release
Dayton, OH - The University Of Massachusetts Department of Sports Management has awarded the 2007 Turnkey PRISM Award to the Dayton Dragons, marking the third time the Mandalay-owned franchise has been selected as honorees. Along with this year's award, the Dragons become the first franchise inducted into the Turnkey PRISM Awards Hall of Fame.
The Dragons, winners of the "Minor" league level award, are the first organization since the inception of the awards in 2000 to win three times. In fact, Dayton is the only franchise to win the award more than once. The Phoenix Suns of the NBA were honored as the 2007 award winners at the "Major" league level.
The PRISM Awards (Professionalism, Results, and Innovation in Sports Management) are presented annually to franchises at both the major and minor league levels that demonstrate excellence in five categories of sports franchise management: strategic mission, innovative marketing, community relations, customer service and employee relations.
"Dayton Dragons Baseball is very fortunate in that we have the very best fans, the very best corporate partners, the very best employees, and the very best ownership group in Mandalay" said Dragons President Robert Murphy. "Our owners provide us with all the resources you could ever ask for and allow us to do great things for our fan base."
Being selected for the Hall of Fame, the Dayton Dragons are no longer eligible for future PRISM Awards.
"We are honored and proud to be recognized for the third time as PRISM award winners and to be selected to be the first organization to be inducted into their Hall of Fame," Murphy said. "This is truly humbling."
The Dragons also won the PRISM Award for the combined 2002-2003 years, and repeated as honorees in 2004.
Along with the Dragons, the Chicago Wolves (2000), Sacramento River Cats (2001), Manchester Monarchs (2005), and Rochester Red Wings (2006) have been previously selected as award winners at the "Minor" league level. Along with the Phoenix Suns, previous winners at the "Major" league level include the NBA's Orlando Magic (2000) and Memphis Grizzlies (2005); the NHL's Washington Capitals (2001), Minnesota Wild (2004), and Philadelphia Flyers (2006); and the NFL's Houston Texans (2002-03).
Individuals and groups seeking information about 2007 tickets, the Dragons wait list, sponsorship opportunities or booking a Dragons speaker are encouraged to contact the Dragons by calling at (937) 228-BATS, or find the Dragons on the Internet daytondragons.com.
