Sacramento River Cats News Release

West Sacramento, Calif. - With three major-league rehabbers in Friday night's lineup, the Sacramento River Cats (31-43) batting order was as stacked as it's been all season. They took advantage and handed the first-place Reno Aces (46-28) a three-run loss at Sutter Health Park.

Third baseman Tommy La Stella led off and doubled twice in a 3-for-4 night at the plate while outfielder Jaylin Davis launched his ninth homer of the season - a two-run shot in the fifth to put Sacramento up 4-1. Even first baseman Brandon Belt got in on the action, driving home the opening run of the game with a sacrifice fly and drawing a walk in his second plate appearance.

On the mound, it was right-hander Sam Wolff who was called on short notice to start Friday night's contest. The originally-scheduled lefty Sam Selman was dealt in a trade-deadline deal that brought Tony Watson back to the San Francisco Giants. Wolff pitched brilliantly as the opener, striking out two in a perfect first frame before giving way to Kervin Castro and three additional relievers who contained Reno's hot bats.

Saturday night's matchup will see right-hander Akeel Morris make his fifth appearance since joining the River Cats while the Aces will have rehabbing righty Seth Frankoff on the mound. First pitch is set for 7:07 p.m. (PT). Watch Johnny Doskow and J.T. Snow call the game live on CW-31 or listen online at rivercats.com or on the MiLB First Pitch app.

Additional Notes

Shortstop Mauricio Dubón continues to flash the leather at his natural position, making another spectacular play to get Ildemaro Vargas on an off-balance throw moving to his left.

Second baseman Jason Krizan homered for the third consecutive game, putting the River Cats up 2-0 in the second inning. After an 0-for-15 mini slump in Tacoma, Krizan is now 6-for-10 with three homers, a double, and a walk.
