Clinton LumberKings News Release

Clinton, IA - For the first time since 1994, the Clinton LumberKings were swept in a four-game series by the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers in Clinton, falling 5-0 on Monday night at Ashford University Field. Timber Rattlers (34-30, 65-68) starter, and major league rehabber, Zach Davies threw a complete game shutout; needing only 85 pitches to go the distance against Clinton (27-37, 66-68).

Clay Chandler started for the LumberKings and turned in a five-inning performance in which he allowed three runs on seven hits while walking one and striking out five.

Wisconsin pushed across the game's first run in the top of the third inning. Darren Seferina hit the first of five doubles by the Timber Rattlers and scored two batters later on an RBI single by KJ Harrison.

In Chandler's (8-4) final inning of work, the fifth, three straight two doubles by the Timber Rattlers batters added two more runs to their lead.

For his time out Chandler was given the loss, his fourth of the season.

Davies (1-0) did not need much run supports as he shutout the LumberKings over a nine-inning complete game in his second rehab start of the year against Clinton. He struck out six and walked none while scattering seven hits, all singles, to earn his first win of his rehab assignments.

Davies needed just 85 pitches to get through his nine innings and never once found himself in a three ball count, he ended his night throwing just 18 balls.

The Timber Rattlers added two runs to their lead in the top of the seventh inning of LumberKings reliever Matt Clancy. Wisconsin loaded the bases to open the inning and Payton Henry drove home the first run with an RBI fielder's choice and Chad McClanahan capped the rally's scoring with a sacrifice fly to center.

The loss is a four-game series sweep for the Timber Rattlers that moves them into the second half wild card lead in the Western Division. It is the first time Clinton has been swept at home by Wisconsin in a four game series since July 8-11 of 1994.

The LumberKings will take tomorrow off before continuing their homestand with a series opener against the Quad Cities River Bandits starting on Wednesday night. Clinton will throw left-hander Ray Kerr (5-11, 4.24) while the River Bandits will counter with righty Cesar Rosado (4-4, 4.17). Game time is slated for 6:30 PM. Fans looking to listen to the game can hear Erik Oas on the call on 100.3 FM WCCI and online at lumberkings.com via the tunein radio ap at 6:15 PM with the pregame show.
