Beloit, WI - The Beloit Snappers (65-67) took a tough 9-4 loss on the chin Monday night against the Peoria Chiefs (76-57) at Dozer Park Monday night.

In the series, the Snappers lost 4-1 including a double-header loss last Friday.

With the Snappers up 2-1 in the fourth, Chiefs Dennis Ortega gave Peoria the lead for the second time with a two-run home run, his sixth of the season, off Snappers starter Jean Ruiz to make it 3-2.

Then with Beloit up 4-3 in the sixth, Peoria fired back and took the lead for good with three consecutive RBI singles off Snappers reliever Seth Martinez to make it 6-4.

The Chiefs weren't done, scoring three more in the bottom of the seventh on two RBI singles and an RBI double by Zach Kirtley that made the score 9-4.

The Snappers took their first lead of the game in top of the third when Lazaro Armenteros and Logan Farrar went yard with solo homers to make it 2-1. It was Armenteros' eighth homer of the season and Farrar's team-leading 12th.

Beloit struck again in the top of the fifth with a two-RBI single from Hunter Hargrove that scored Jesus Lage and Austin Beck, making it 4-3 Snappers. It was the last the offense would score.

Peoria struck first to start the game, with the 1-2-3 hitters in Wood Myers, Justin Toerner and Luken Baker all singling. Toerner, who has been a thorn in the Snappers side all series, singled home Myers to make it 1-0.

Beck, who finished 2-for-4, was the only Snappers with a multi-hit game. It was his team-leading 38th multi-hit game of the season.

Ruiz got the loss, going 5.1 innings and surrendering four runs on seven hits. Martinez got the blown save and loss in one inning of work where he allowed all five runs in relief.

It wasn't a game with a lot of strikeouts, just seven combined between both teams, but the Snappers pitchers recorded just one strikeout on the game which came from Ruiz.

The Snappers are falling on tough times, now having lost seven of their last nine games. This was the last regular season meeting between Peoria and Beloit, with the Chiefs taking the season series 9-8.

The Snappers will now return home for an off day before departing for Appleton and a three-game series with the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers, starting on Wednesday. On the mound to start for Beloit will be right-hander Gus Varland (0-0, 0.79).

The Beloit Snappers are a member of the Midwest League and have been the Single-A affiliate of the Oakland Athletics since 2013. For more ticket information, contact the Snappers office at (608) 362-2272 or on our website, www.snappersbaseball.com.
