Carolina Mudcats News Release

ZEBULON, NC - Braxton Davidson hit a go-ahead home run in the fourth, Enderson Franco started and pitched through six innings with five strikeouts and Taylor Lewis, A.J. Minter and Evan Phillips combined on three scoreless innings out of the bullpen while finishing a 3-1 victory versus the Dash in front of a Friday Night crowd of a 4,896 in Zebulon.

Franco (4-3, 4.64) gave up a game tying home run to Nick Basto in the fourth, but allowed only one run over six innings and earned the win. He hit two batters, walked one and struck out five while picking up his first win since May 7.

Davidson's home run in the fourth broke a 1-1 tie and was his third of the season. It drove in Joseph Odom who singled one at-bat earlier and put the Mudcats up 3-1. Odom's single stretched his current hitting streak to seven straight games.

Dash starter Jordan Stephens (1-7, 4.68) allowed the fourth inning two-run home run to Davidson. Stephens took the loss after allowing three runs on five hits over six innings pitched. He also walked one and struck out four in the loss.

The Mudcats bullpen closed out the game with three straight scoreless frames while holding and eventually saving the 3-1 lead.

Lewis worked through a scoreless seventh with two strikeouts. Minter then followed in the eighth and finished with a walk and a strikeout while pitching a scoreless frame.

Phillips (S, 7) worked the ninth and closed the game by getting Chris O'Dowd to hit into a game ending double play. Phillips earned his team best seventh save and worked through his seventh straight scoreless appearance.

The game was scoreless through two before Omar Obregon brought in the first run for either side with a RBI sacrifice bunt in the third. His bunt scored Sal Giardina from third after Giardina singled with one out earlier in the inning. Basto's home run in the fourth then tied it, but Davidson's two-run shot put the Mudcats up 3-1.

Carolina was 0-for-6 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base in the victory. Stephen Gaylor was 2-fo-4, Davidson was 1-for-3 with a home run and Giardina was 1-for-3 with a run in the game two victory.

The Carolina win evened the four game series up at a game apiece. The third game of the four game series is scheduled for Saturday night at 6:00 p.m. at Five County Stadium. Raymar Navarro (3-1, 4.67) will start for the Mudcats on Saturday against Winston-Salem's Spencer Adams (6-3, 3.41).
