Davidson Dazzles with Overtime Winner in Kelowna

The Saskatoon Blades finished up their longest road trip of the season in style on Saturday night with a thrilling 5-4 overtime win over the Kelowna Rockets. The Blades will come home with a 3-1-1-0 record on the road trip and 17-9-3-0 overall on the season.

HOW IT WENT DOWN

Saskatoon got out to a hot start in the opening period with a pair of goals from Gary Haden (7) and Tristen Robins (4). Nolan Maier stopped all 10 shots faced in the first period to keep his club up 2-0 at the first break.

Dawson Davidson (5) increased the lead to 3-0 with a power play marker early in the second period. Finally fans at Prospera Place in Kelowna were able to toss their Teddy Bears as Mark Liwiski followed up on a rebound to get the Rockets on the board 10:29 into the middle frame.

Brandon Schuldhaus (3) gave the Blades a 4-2 lead thanks to a power play goal in the third period but three goals from the Rockets forced an extra period.

Dawson Davidson took a pass from Gary Haden in his own end and burst down the ice for a clear breakaway to score his 2nd of the game, 6th of the season, winning the game for the Blades just 23 seconds into overtime.

Saskatoon's power play went 2/4 and the penalty kill was perfect at 4/4.

TURNING POINT

Seemed to be when the Rockets scored less than a minute after Brandon Schuldhaus' goal to make it 4-3, giving them enough momentum to tie the game and force overtime. However, the Blades still managed to earn the victory.

Dawson Davidson had 2 goals including the overtime winner, was a +3, and had 6 shots on goal.

Gary Haden had a goal and an assist, a +2 rating and 5 shots on goal.

Nolan Maier stopped 29/33 shots faced and went 4/4 on the penalty kill to earn his 14th win of the season.

NOTEWORTHY NUMBERS

Kirby Dach played in his 100th career WHL game.

Dawson Davidson snapped a 17 game goal-less drought, and he did it with an exclamation point!

Kristian Roykas-Marthinsen extended his point streak to three games (1G-2A).

UNSUNG HERO

Tristen Robins scored his 4th goal of the season and had an impressive night on the forecheck drawing 2 penalties.

The Blades head home to host the Moose Jaw Warriors on Friday night at SaskTel Centre at 7:00pm. Saskatoon's annual Teddy Bear Toss game goes on Sunday, December 9th at 4:00pm versus the Prince Albert Raiders.
