Winston-Salem Dash News Release
MYRTLE BEACH, SC (JUNE 7, 2010) - Earlier today, the Carolina League awarded both of its weekly honors to members of the Winston-Salem Dash. Catcher Logan Johnson was named the league's "Player of the Week," while right-handed starter Terry Doyle won "Pitcher of the Week" for the week of May 31 - June 6. The awards are the first such honors for each player.
Johnson won the award primarily for a pair of tremendous performances in consecutive ballgames. On Wednesday night at Potomac, he went 4 for 4 with a two-run home run and two runs scored. The next night against Kinston, Johnson was 3 for 5 with a home run, a double, five RBI and two more runs scored, coming within a triple of the cycle. He hit .714 (5 for 7) with two home runs, a double, seven RBI and four runs scored over the two-game stretch. He also added a double in Sunday's game to finish off an impressive week.
Doyle had the best start of any Dash pitcher all season on Friday night against the Kinston Indians. He scattered four hits over eight shutout innings, striking out eight batters and walking none. He picked up his second win of the season as Winston nipped the K-Tribe 2-1.
The first-place Dash is tied for the best record in all of professional baseball at 38-19. The team starts a three-game road trip tonight against the Myrtle Beach Pelicans at 7:05 p.m. RHP Nate Jones looks to pitch Winston-Salem to its fifth straight win against LHP Brett Oberholtzer.
The Dash returns to BB&T Ballpark on Thursday, June 10 when it begins a seven-game home stand with a series against the Wilmington Blue Rocks.
The Winston-Salem Dash is the Class-A Advanced minor league affiliate of the Chicago White Sox. To purchase tickets and for more information, please call 336-714-2287 or visit www.wsdash.com .
