Potomac Nationals News Release

(WOODBRIDGE, VA) A huge crowd was on hand Monday night to see Ivan Rodriguez make a rehab appearance with the Potomac Nationals. The 14-time All Star was greeted with loud applause in all three of his plate appearances, and thrilled the fans with six innings behind the plate. Unfortunately for the masses on hand, the Nationals dropped the ballgame to the Keys, 3-1.

Brad Peacock was again solid, but he was out-dueled by Rick Zagone. The lefthander shut down the Nats for six innings, the only blemish on his record a two-out solo home run by Tyler Moore in the sixth. Zagone allowed just two hits, walked one and struck out six.

The Keys scored single runs in the second, third and fourth innings. In the second, Ronnie Welty walked with one out and scored after back-to-back singles from Buck Britton and Brian Ward, neither of which left the infield.

In the third inning, Xavier Avery led off with a rocket double to right. Greg Miclat sacrificed him to third, and Avery scored on Joe Mahoney's sacrifice fly to right. Three more singles scored Miguel Abreu in the fourth.

On the night, Rodriguez was 0-for-3. He reached on an error in the first, struck out in the second and flied to right in the bottom of the fifth.

The Nats look to level the series tomorrow night with Jesse Estrada on the hill at 7:03 PM. The broadcast can be heard beginning at 6:50.
